Title: Le jeune loup et le vieil agneau (The Young Wolf and the Old Lamb)
Description:
The composition closely follows Alberto Fabio Lorenzi’s illustration published in Le Sourire, 19 February 1925, p. 11 as a colour lithograph. The present gouache represents a faithful adaptation of that original, executed and signed by H. Bréhé (unidentified). Caricatural scene of a masked young woman in a short, flared dress with black accents, arm-in-arm with an older man in a top hat and evening dress. The woman, poised and coquettish, holds a cocktail glass while the man, surprised and hesitant, clutches his gloves. The pink curtain backdrop evokes the Parisian cabaret or masquerade setting typical of 1920s arts du spectacle.
