The attribution on the title-page to Friedrich de La Motte-Fouqué (German, 1777 – 1843) is erroneous. The original German was edited by La Motte Fouqué. The translation was performed by Sir John Bowring (British, 1792 – 1872)
First edition in English, third issue with no hyphen between “Ave” and ‘Maria” in publisher’s imprint.
