Large and thin iron tsuba of round form (width > height) decorated with the design of a tiger sheltering in bamboo in suemon-zōgan brass inlay. A fragment of tail inlay is missing. Bamboo leaves on the reverse.
According to Merrily Baird [Symbols, p. 166], tiger sheltering in bamboo symbolizes “weak giving shelter to the strong”.
