Creative Printmakers Group (New York, printer, est. 1939)
Creative Printmakers Group — founded by Anthony Velonis (American, 1911–1997) with Hyman J. Warsager (American, 1909–1974) and other artists, the group operated a shared silkscreen studio producing editions for its members and for artists including Jackson Pollock (American, 1912–1956), Vincent Longo (American, 1923–2017), Ruth Chaney (American, 1908–1983), and Will Barnet (American, 1911–2012); associated with figures such as Louise Bourgeois (French-American, 1911–2010), André Lurçat (French, 1894–1970), and Carl Zigrosser (American, 1891–1975), who coined the term “serigraphy,” the workshop played a central role in establishing fine-art screenprinting in the United States and became the leading American silkscreen studio of its period.
