George, Adrian (British, 1944 – 2021)
Adrian George studied at the Royal College of Art during the 1960s and subsequently established a distinguished career as a painter and graphic artist. His works have been exhibited in numerous solo exhibitions and widely reproduced as prints, posters, and postcards. Examples of his work are held in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, and other public and private collections. Residing in Paris during the 1990s, George developed a particular engagement with French cultural and literary themes, making his illustrations for Summer in the Country especially apt. It is his first known commission for the illustration of an explicitly erotic literary work.
