Haynes, Robert E. (American, 1930–2023)

Robert E. Haynes was one of the world's leading authorities on Japanese sword fittings (tōsōgu). A renowned researcher, collector, and dealer, he assembled one of the most important private collections in the field and devoted decades to the study of Japanese sword furniture and associated artists. He is best known for his publications Gai Sō Shi and The Index of Japanese Sword Fittings and Associated Artists, which remain standard reference works for collectors and scholars.
