Société française d’éditions d’art, L.-Henry May [May, Louis-Henry] (Paris, publisher, fl. 1886–1904)
Louis-Henry May was a Parisian publisher and printing director who became commercial director for the publishing house Maison Quantin in 1886. Following its 1890 merger with Émile Motteroz, he served as co-director of the Librairies-Imprimeries réunies. In the late 1890s, he managed his own specialized imprint, the Société française d'éditions d'art, operating from offices at 9/11, rue Saint-Benoît. In this role, May managed the administration, typographic printing, and commercial distribution of art history monographs, academic theses, and luxury artist volumes, including James McNeill Whistler's 1899 treatise The Baronet & the Butterfly.
