Ono no Komachi [小野小町] (Japanese, poet, fl. c. 825–900)
Waka poet of the early Heian period (平安時代, 794–1185); one of the Rokkasen (六歌仙, Six Poetry Immortals); only woman among the six. Eighteen poems attributed to her preserved in the Kokinshū (古今和歌集, Collection of Ancient and Modern Poems, 905 AD). Celebrated for her beauty and passionate verse; biographical details largely unknown. Subject of extensive legend from the 11th century, elaborated in five Noh plays.
