Paul, Charles Kegan (British, 1828–1902)

Charles Kegan Paul (1828–1902) was a British author, translator, and former Anglican priest who entered publishing in 1874 as a business associate to Henry S. King (1817–1878). In 1877, he bought out King's publishing business and established his own firm, C. Kegan Paul & Co. In 1881, after taking Alfred Chenevix Trench (1849–1938) into partnership, the company was renamed Kegan Paul, Trench & Co., which eventually merged in 1889 to form Kegan Paul, Trench, Trübner & Co. (now part of Routledge).
