Description: Double slipcase, purple cloth with gilt lettering to spine, 255 × 172 mm. — Publisher’s cream wrappers, 242 × 165 mm, printed in violet, enclosing unbound gatherings in 4to; pages uncut. — Two preliminary leaves within the wrappers, followed by the first gathering of 8 leaves and sixteen gatherings of 4 leaves each. — Pp. [1–7] (blank, half-title, title-page, Avant-propos), 8–141 [3] (blank, limitation statement, blank). — Illustrated with twelve original colour engravings by Gaston Barret, printed in intaglio à la poupée and heightened by hand with pochoir on vellum paper. — This copy is enhanced with an additional suite of the twelve plates printed in black (uncoloured) and one original watercolour by the artist.

Notes: Fine-press illustrated edition of this anonymous French erotic novel, first published circa 1866 and later attributed to Henriette Nicolas Le Blanc, Comtesse Mannoury d’Ectot (1815–1899). Privately issued for subscribers by Jacques Haumont, it exemplifies mid-twentieth-century French bibliophilic printing. The present copy belongs to the deluxe issue, containing both an uncoloured suite of the engravings and an original watercolour by Gaston Barret.
