Minamoto no Yoriyoshi [源頼義] (Japanese, military commander, 988–1075)
Warrior of the mid-to-late Heian period (平安時代, 794–1185); head of the Minamoto clan (源氏) and Chinjufu-shōgun (鎮守府将軍, Commander-in-Chief of the Defence of the North); son of Minamoto no Yorinobu (源頼信, 968–1048). Led imperial forces in the Earlier Nine Years' War (前九年の役, Zenkunen no Eki, 1051–1062) against the Abe clan in Mutsu Province, together with his son Minamoto no Yoshiie (源義家). Founded Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine in Kamakura in 1063.
