Bust-length portrait of a young woman (teeth not blackened), head in three-quarter view turned right; right hand holding the lapel of the kimono; left hand holding a rigid fan (uchiwa, 団扇) depicting stylized river flow with scattered cherry blossoms and water birds, titled Sumidagawa no zu (すみだ川之圖, "View of the Sumida River"), inscribed hanazakari (花ざかり, "flowers in full bloom") in a yellow cartouche and the artist's signature Sadahide ga (貞秀画) within a red double-gourd-shaped cartouche.
She wears a blue-and-white striped kimono with large roundels containing stylized pine branches (松), rice shoots (稲), and pampas grass (薄); red undergarment with white flowers and dots pattern; blue obi with brown roundels with gold flowers and arabesque pattern; hair with red ribbon, comb, and kanzashi (簪) decorated with a bat (蝙蝠, kōmori) and a yajirobe (やじろべえ, balancing toy) ornaments.
To the right: a Chinese-style cartouche of bamboo frame with cords and tassels, enclosing a folding fan (sensu, 扇子) with an autumn landscape inscribed 高雄山 もみじ (Takao-san momiji, "Red Maples of Mount Takao"), the last three characters in hentaigana; above it a red panel inscribed with the series title 繪兄弟 (Ekyōdai, "Matching Pictures").
Seals and signatures. Artist's signature Gyokuran Sadahide ga (玉蘭貞秀画) within two double-gourd-shaped cartouches (red and yellow); publisher's mark 十 (jū) for Kojimaya Jūbei (小島屋重兵衛); censor seal 田中 (Tanaka) for nanushi censor Tanaka Heishirō (田中平四郎), active only in 1843. No date seal. Binding holes along the left margin.
