Center: a public well (井戸, ido) inscribed with the character 水 (mizu, "water"); a triangular roof structure inscribed 五丁町 (Gochōmachi, "Fifth Quarter"), referring to Shin-Yoshiwara (新吉原), the licensed pleasure quarter of Edo.
